What companies are, and aren't, doing to find qualified workers
Thu Nov 7, 2013
We own a small business, and hiring is a nightmare. We usually need just straight labor...warehouse help. Starting pay is $12/hour and we pay for 100% of healthcare and dental. The last ad I placed (online throughout the state and printed in the local paper), I got 15 responses.&nb …
Not in Kansas: Sebelius hearing on Obamacare went straight to Oz
Wed Oct 30, 2013
We own our own business and employ 20 people. We provide health insurance and cover the costs 100%. According to this woman, we should not be impacted by ACA. We received our cancellation letter, citing that our policy did not meet the ACA Essential Benefits standards. I wish …

Retail hiring goes high tech as holiday season nears
Thu Oct 3, 2013
I am a small business owner, and hiring good people is one of the hardest things I do. People come to the interview in sloppy jeans and a t-shirt, are late, rude or a host of other issues. I find referrals from friends or other employees is the way to go. Advertising in the local p …

Thu Jun 20, 2013
Lived in a northern suburb of Detroit back in the late 80's. It was bad then, can't imagine what it is like now. Sorry, I wouldn't live there again for all the tea in China. There is an attitude that surrounds the whole town, and I don't think it is going to change.

In Aurora, one wounded woman, two donation sites: Where to give?
Fri Jul 27, 2012
If someone falls and breaks their leg on my property, my insurance covers it. It pays the cost to treat the injury and if the person sues me. Why wouldn't the same apply to the insurance for the theatre? Not trying to be difficult, but seems to make sense to me.
